Located in one of the most scenic areas of Eleuthera the Windswept is the perfect place for a private relaxing vacation. With two bedrooms a full bath large kitchen and living area the Windswept accommodates four guests very comfortably. For additional guests we have provided a double (electric) inflatable mattress.
For winter guests enjoy the hot tub (heated to the perfect temperature) located on the west end deck. For summer guests nothing feels better than cool fresh rainwater! Enjoy a glass of wine while you end another day in paradise watching the sunset from the spa!
The Windswept is comfortable roomy and homey. The kitchen is very well stocked with every kind of kitchen utensil imaginable. The chest freezer is a real asset for guests who book extended visits. Enjoy preparing Bahamian meals while you look at the water and listen to the sound of the waves!
The patio is the perfect spot for dining out. You can grill the ""catch of the day"" and enjoy tropical drinks with Atlantic in the background. The breeze on the Atlantic side is fabulous and because the patio is on the east side you'll have shade from the hot afternoon sun.
Star gazing is unbelievable at the Windswept. Because there are no other houses around there are no ""city lights"" to obliterate the view of the Milky Way.
Rainbow Bay is one of the best areas on the island for bicycling. Take a picnic lunch and bicycle from the house (north) to Little Twin and Smuggler's Beach. Travel south and visit the cliffs (spectacular view) and the come-and-go beaches. If you enjoy shelling you'll want to stop at all the beaches. There are treasures on all of them!
While you're at the Windswept do read the guest journal (located on the coffee table) which contains a great deal of information about where to go and things to do on the island. Also please take a look at our website http://home.bellsouth.net/p/pwp-windswept for additional information and testimonials from previous guests.
Regarding groceries and provisions the closest grocery store is about 2 miles south on the Queen's Highway. The proprieters at ""The Big Rock"" are very helpful and will help you find the things you need. Additionally there is a liquor store and small bar connected to the store. While there are many restaurants on the island the Rainbow Bay Inn is the closest. It serves international cuisine (including Bahamian) and offers entertainment (Dr. Seabreeze) one night per week.
To keep you in touch with the world we have provided a cell phone for guests to use. Simply purchase a Quick-Cell card at any grocery store and you can place local and international calls. If you need to check email during your trip you can travel to Governor's Harbour and use the computers in the library there.
Our caretakers Merci and Calvin will make sure the house is in tip-top shape for your arrival. They are also available during the week should you have any problems at all.
To get to the Windswept fly to the Governor's Harbour Airport (GHB) or to the North Eleuthera Airport. The house is located about 30 minutes north of the GHB Airport and about 45 minutes south of the North Eleuthera Airport.
The price for car rentals is about 350.00 per week. If you are interested in renting a car There are several car rental agencies available to help you. Be sure to drive on the left and buckle your seatbelt. The Bahamian officials do enforce the seabelt law. You do not need a Bahamian driver's license to drive on the island. Should you choose not to rent a car cabs are readily available during daytime hours.
To travel to the Bahamas you need either a passport or an official birth certificate. You also need a valid picture ID. When you depart the island you will be charged a fifteen dollar departure tax (per person).
For guests who wish to dive there are dive facilities in Governor's Harbour and in Harbour Island.
Regarding water all utility water is rainwater. The Windswept cistern holds about 7 000 gallons. Because the Bahamas have been in drought for the last several years it is essential to practice stringent water conservation measures. Drinking water is purchased in five gallon bottles. We provide each party five gallons of water. Return your bottle to any grocery store when you need to purchase more. The cost is about $3.00 per bottle.
Eleuthera (Bahamas) is a beautiful quiet magical island. The local people are reserved and very kind. While island attire is casual it is not appropriate to wear bikinis and the like in local stores restaurants etc. Please tip appropriately for services rendered.
To reserve the Windswept please call Laura or Birdie Crosby at 843 821-0018 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. For guests interested in winter rentals BOOK EARLY as the calendar fills up very quickly.
Thank you for your interest in the wonderful Windswept!!"
